The US videogame market enjoyed record sales in December, up 4 per cent on last year and generating revenues of $5.53 billion. Hardware was central to the successful month, said data analyst the NPD Group, up 16 per cent year-on-year to $2.19 billion.
PlayStation 3 hardware sales rose 87 per cent year-on-year in the US in December, making the month the single highest grossing for the console. Units sales were 1.35 million during the month - an achievement that Sony said marked a "turning point for the platform".
